We live in the age of content.
Some people call it the “content deluge.” There are so many results when you search the web that it’s overwhelming, and a lot of the content is not good.
It is more important than ever to make sure your content is interesting, so it stands out among all the other content marketing. “But how?” you ask.
The answer is simple: by creating 10x content.
10x Content
Fishkin’s answer to the question of what makes a great SEO can be found in a specific list of qualities he presented at the 2015 MozCon conference. To qualify as 10x content, a piece should include a ample number of the following:
The 7 Pillars of 10x Content
1. A Uniquely Positive User Experience
Be aware that 10x content must offer an enjoyable experience to the user, not just be positive. There is a lot of content on the internet that has a positive user experience, but that doesn’t make it great.
This means that 10x Content needs to be easily digestible and provide value that is not found elsewhere. This includes the design of the site, the fonts used, and the patterns on the site. Content may be king, but interface is definitely important.
2. High Quality, Trustworthy, Useful, Interesting Writing
A piece of content is considered 10x if it is high quality, trustworthy, useful, and interesting. In order for something to be considered credible, it must be backed by thorough research, have high-quality links, and be easy to read. A little bit of humor can also help.
3. Unique in Approach
10x content does not only need to meet the standards set in point #2, but it should also be unique in its approach to being high quality, trustworthy, useful, and interesting.
You need to do more than just have the right content, you need to make sure it is ten times better than anything else on the search engine.
This could involve presenting the information in a new way, answering questions that have not been answered, or simply writing from a place of empathy that allows you to understand your readers’ perspective.
There are many ways to create unique content, and the approach will vary depending on the author or brand.
4. Loads Quickly
How useful is high-quality content if it takes a long time to load? To be given the title of 10x content, a piece must be able to load quickly on any browser or device. This makes the site more user-friendly and easier to interact with.
5. Evokes Emotional Response
In order to be 10x content, a piece needs to make the reader feel an emotion. The response can be either joy or surprise, but it must be real and authentic, happening immediately.
readers are given too much information every day and it is unlikely they will remember the pieces that didn’t make them feel anything
6. Garners Shares
A piece is only considered 10x Content if it draws a considerable amount of shares on social media platforms or links and mentions by other sites. A piece needs to be informative, useful and engaging in order to earn links and shares.
7. Solves a Problem For The Reader
10x content is content that is 10 times better than other content on the same topic. The content must be valuable to the reader by answering questions and presenting information in an easily digestible manner in order to achieve any of the goals.
Fundamental Guidelines In Creating 10x Content
With all of this evidence, it’s easy to be pessimistic about the state of content today.
Content creators who want to be successful should create material that meets the needs of consumers and is high quality.
Doing something difficult is not as hard as it sounds.
1. Back To Basics
To create a strong foundation for your marketing strategy, start with the basics like developing customer persona documents and company benefit statements.
I think it’s important to keep company and product or service-level benefit statements in mind when writing, because they may change over time.
Your benefits statement now in 2021 may be different than it was two years ago or even last year.
This may be a good time to reevaluate your customers’ needs and see if the benefits you are offering them via your website and marketing materials are still relevant.
And, are you still confident in your customer persona?
2. Do Your Own Research
If you want to create content that is 10 times better than other content, you need to know what 10x content is.
By searching Google for some of the topics you want to write about, you can get a better understanding of what readers are interested in. You can also see what is trending on Twitter or social media to get an idea of what might be valuable to your readers.
This will help you understand what readers want to know and what types of content they appreciate. This will give you guidance for creating content.
It is beneficial for you to do your own research as it allows you to see areas where there is a lack of competition. This is an important aspect of marketing. In order to create content that stands out from the rest, you need to be aware of what other content is out there.
This can only be deduced through conducting personal research. Besides helping you discover what’s available, research can also aid you in comprehending what’s being done correctly, incorrectly, and what hasn’t been done at all.
If you want your content to be successful, you need to gather the right information first.
An excellent tool that content marketers can use to research what content might be popular with their audience, trending in their industry, or gaps they could fill with content is Buzzsumo.
For instance, check out the dashboard and the search options:
Content marketers can use content filters to see what is trending, compare domains, find top authors, or set content alerts. This is a way to find the best content on the web and be inspired.
I like the Trending Now tab, just to see what’s hot on the web in the last 60 minutes of Internet time:
You can find industry influencers using BuzzSumo, and following them and reading their content will help you build relationships and get inspiration for your own content.
I’m not saying this because I’m endorsed to, but seriously: If you want to create content that is ten times better than normal, you need to use BuzzSumo.
3. Consider Which Questions Your Readers Need Answering
Great content must answer readers’ questions. Without this, there is no hope for your website. Pause for a moment to consider which questions the most widely shared content in your search category is answering.
The chances are good that you will be able to understand what readers are asking and what writers are answering. This means that you should research what questions people are actually asking about your topic, and then write content that directly answers those questions.
4. Boost Your User Experience
Is your site easy to navigate? Does it load like lightning? Is it laid out well? Is it optimized for mobile devices? If you did not answer “yes” to all of these questions, you should return to work.
If users are having trouble navigating your site, they will leave it. Creating content that is easy to interact with will keep users on your site.
To keep people on your site, use design that is easy to use and listen to what users have to say.
5. New Customers And New Opportunities
I’m seeing companies bringing on new types of customers. Other potential customer groups have not been explored or utilized.
It’s a great opportunity to talk to another group of people who want what you offer and can become evangelists for your brand.
You’re adding micro moments to your product or service to make it more appealing to people. You’re taking into account what’s happening in their world and what would make them want your product or service.
For example, if you are selling, say, industrial freezers.
This is an actual client. Many businesses were unwilling to purchase a new freezer until their current one began to malfunction.
They were aware that if it failed, it would cost them thousands of dollars in lost time each week. They needed to find a replacement before the situation got worse.
Understanding micro-moments can help companies build content that will reach potential customers who are trying to make a purchase decision.
6. Amplify Your Content
We talk about influencer lists for content amplification.
Many companies make the mistake of thinking they don’t need to partner with other companies to promote their content, or that Google will automatically find their content if it’s good enough.
The more you can partner with others to get your content seen by your target audience, the more likely they are to remember you when they are ready to buy.
7. Get Everyone On The Same Page
You will need SEO writing training as well as a style guide in order to ensure that everyone involved with the content is on the same page.
The purpose of this is to ensure that everyone is aware of what is happening, why certain practices are considered to be the best, and how these practices relate to their organization.
I think it would be a good idea to involve IT in the discussion because they will be the ones responsible for implementing the changes. The better content creators understand what their audience wants, the more successful they will be.
Creating content based on false information can be prevented by having a few key elements.
I often work with companies that think they need to write at least 1500 words for every post. But sometimes shorter posts are just as good, if not better.
We need to use the key phrase often so that Google understands that it is important. We also need to show Google that we are a real website by publishing regularly.
And a lot of these myths just aren’t true. Putting everyone on the same page can help prevent you from working against each other and leverage opportunities.
The majority of B2C marketers (63%) have adapted their marketing and targeting strategy in reaction to the outbreak of the pandemic. In many cases, the most appropriate and smart response would have been to do nothing.
Transforming your results can be as simple asdialing in those basics.
8. Realize That Google Decides Search Intent
It is crucial for companies to know that Google is the decider when it comes to search intent, especially for B2B. This is also true for B2C. I have this as a big one because it is real.
I have worked with companies that have tried to hard to improve their ranking on Google, for example, by adding a services page about cloud computing in order to match what Google sees as an informational query.
9. Dual Purpose Postings
This is an example of what is happening. If you type “cloud computing” into a search engine, the results will not be pages for cloud computing companies.
You will not see organic results for that if you only see ads. What you see are results that say “What is cloud computing?” and “What are the different types of cloud computing?”
And the first one is Microsoft. ” If someone pitched the idea of Microsoft using cloud computing, the first thought would be that their clients understand what it is. We don’t have to provide a guide explaining what something is in order to help them.
It is likely that Microsoft does this in order to be visible on the search results page for that particular term, as well as on their own landing page. This page provides access to all of their services.
They have documents that you can download. The website provides information while also promoting the company’s services and leading users to other resources.
If they tried to create a services page for cloud computing, it would probably be unsuccessful.
