What if you could make money at any time, from anywhere — even while you sleep? This would be incredible, right? Well, it is possible with affiliate marketing. As an affiliate marketer, you can promote products and earn commissions on sales.

You don’t need to have your own products to sell. You can simply promote other people’s products and earn a commission on each sale. Plus, you can do this from anywhere in the world. All you need is a computer and an internet connection.

This is the concept behind affiliate marketing.

Affiliate marketing is where someone earns a commission for promoting another person’s or company’s products.

The sales are tracked when customers click on affiliate links from one website to another.

This is a guide on how to do affiliate marketing properly on social media platforms.

This guide is designed to help affiliate marketers find success and make money through affiliate marketing on social media platforms. By following this comprehensive guide from start to finish, you can feel confident that you are using the right methods for affiliate marketing on social media.

Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate marketing is a way for businesses to work together to promote their products. By sharing the responsibilities of marketing and product creation, businesses can leverage the abilities of a variety of people to create a more effective marketing strategy.

Contributors are given a share of the profits from the products they help to promote.

To make this work, three different parties must be involved:

Seller and Product Creators

Also known as the brand, the seller does not need to be actively involved in the marketing, but they may also be the advertiser and profit from the revenue sharing associated with affiliate marketing.

The seller, who may be a solo entrepreneur or large enterprise, is a vendor, merchant, product creator, or retailer with a product to market. The product can be a physical object, like household goods, or a service, like makeup tutorials.

Also known as the brand, the seller does not need to be actively involved in the marketing, but they may also be the advertiser and profit from the revenue sharing associated with affiliate marketing.

The brand or the seller who is not actively involved in marketing can still benefit from the revenue generated through affiliate marketing.

An example of this would be an ecommerce merchant starting a drop shipping business in order to reach a new audience. This can be achieved by paying affiliate sites to promote their products.

Instead of the seller being a company that sells marketing software, they could be a SaaS company that uses affiliates to promote and sell their software.

The Affiliate or Publisher

The affiliate is responsible for marketing the seller’s product to potential consumers in an appealing way. The affiliate can be an individual or a company.

The affiliate is responsible for marketing the product and convincing potential customers that the product is worth purchasing.

If the consumer buys the product, the affiliate will receive a percentage of the resulting revenue.

An affiliate’s target audience is generally people who share the same interests. This creates a niche market that the affiliate can use to attract consumers who are most likely to convert.

The Consumer

The affiliate system only works if there are sales, and customers are the ones who make sales happen.

The affiliate will promote the product/service to consumers through the necessary channel(s), for example social media, a blog or a YouTube video. If the consumer considers the product to be valuable or beneficial, they can follow the affiliate link and checkout on the merchant’s website.

If the customer buys the item, the affiliate gets a share of the profits.

However, you must make the customer aware that you will receive a commission off the product.

An affiliate marketer must disclose their relationship to the retailer to the consumer, so the consumer can decide how much weight to give the endorsement.

A disclaimer informs your viewers that you were given products by a company and allows them to make a decision about buying the product.

Types of Affiliate Marketing

Unattached

In the unattached business model, the affiliate marketer is not connected to the product or service they are promoting. They do not have expertise or authority in the niche of the product, and cannot make claims about its use.

An affiliate who is not attached to a certain merchant will typically run PPC (pay-per-click) marketing campaigns, in the hopes that shoppers will click on an affiliate link and make a purchase.

Although affiliate marketing has the potential to be profitable without investing in the product or customer relationship, it is generally not as successful as when these factors are taken into account.

Related

This type of marketing is for people who are in between not being attached to the product or service, but are still somehow related to the niche audience.

For example, you may be promoting a clothing brand you have never used before, but have an audience through a fashion blog or YouTube channel. In this case, you would be considered a related affiliate marketer.

The positive aspect of this type of affiliate marketing is that affiliates have the necessary skills to drive traffic. However, they might take the chance of suggesting a lousy product or service if they have never personally used it, which could lead to losing their audience’s trust.

Involved

This type of affiliate marketing generally involves having a personal relationship with the product or service being promoted. This means that affiliates are more likely to pay close attention to the product or service, and are more likely to be able to provide insights or recommendations about it.

The affiliate has personal experience with the product and believes it will be a positive experience for users. They are also able to make assertions about the product based on their knowledge.

Instead of trusting ads that are paid for, affiliate marketers rely on their own experiences with the product. Customers can trust them as a source of information because of this.

If you want to make more money from affiliate marketing, you need to put in more effort. It will take more time to build up your credibility, but it will be worth it in the end.

Amazon Social Media

If you generate sales from social networking sites like Twitter or Facebook, Amazon will pay you a referral fee. combining Social Media and Amazon Associates is a great way to make money!

You can only post affiliate marketing links on certain sites that are approved. You also have to check to see if the terms of your affiliate agreement allow you to post links on those sites.

Amazon Associates Operating Agreement location

You can find the Operating Agreement on the home page of Associates Central in the right hand navigation pane. Here are links to both the Operating Agreement and the Product Advertising API License Agreement for easy reference:

Shortened URLs

If you use the shortened URL format offered by Amazon, you will receive referral fees for any qualifying sales you refer.

To find the right shortened URL format for a product you would like to recommend, visit the detail page for that product and click on the “Share with friends” link.

The URL for a product can be found next to the “Permalink” option in the pop-up window. For example, the shortened URL for the 6″ Kindle is http://amzn.com/B00154JDAI.

In order to create an Associates tagged link, you just need to add your Associates tag to the end of the URL. For example, if your tag was “your id”, the URL would look like this: http://amzn.com/B00154JDAI/tag=your id.

The inclusion of your Associate ID in URL shortening services can vary significantly.

In general, you need to include your Amazon Associate ID before using a URL shortening service.

Some services may add their own Associates tag to the shortened URL, while others may remove your Associates tag altogether. In addition, some shortening services use their shortened URLs to frame the Amazon site.

If the links you get from any service don’t take you to www.amazon.com in the address bar, you can’t use them for the Associates Program and you won’t earn referral fees from them.

You need to address any problems you have with a service to the provider of that service. Amazon can’t give you compensation for difficulties you have with other shortened URL providers.

Choose a social network user name and profile that does not infringe on any copyrights or trademarks, both Amazon’s and those of others.

As stated in the Associates Operating Agreement, Associates are not allowed to do anything that would make customers confused about our relationship with them or that would misrepresent the relationship between us and them.

Don’t use our logos or anything that says “Amazon” on your profile, because it will make people think you’re sponsored by us, when you’re not.

You are responsible for ensuring that your content does not infringe on the intellectual property rights of others.

It is not required to use the Amazon URL shortener to distribute affiliate links on social media. A few alternates that have been tested and confirmed to work with Amazon’s affiliate program are:

iPod Touch – Amazon Shortened Link

http://amzn.com/B002M3SOC4/tag=wwwsimplyidea-20

iPod Touch – 3rd Party Url Shortener

http://9mp.com/ipod

This is an example of a shortened link from the 9mp.com URL shortening service. The affiliate ID is not visible in the link.

Even though the affiliate ID is no longer visible on the website, it is still there. If you click the link and look at the destination URL, you will see that the affiliate ID is included in the website URL.

It is essential to ensure that if you use a third-party service, the affiliate ID described above is present in the link before you shorten it with a third-party URL shortener.

It is not possible to include an Amazon affiliate ID when using a third-party shortened link.

You should always test the link you’re planning to share by pasting it into a website browser and following the link.
